Dressage Royal’s Offspring
His Offspring | Foal Image Gallery
Dressage Royal is a privately owned stallion in Germany, and is not heavily advertised by a large stud farm with a limitless budget. His owners, Dorit and Hermann Kothe, have chosen to have a super star stallion for their own use and that of their clients. The lack of a true “marketing machine” has not impacted Dressage Royal’s success as a sire – quite the opposite in fact! While his foal crops have not numbered in the hundreds like many big name stallions, Dressage Royal’s offspring have made an immeasurable impact in the performance arena. His son Desperado has several prestigious awards to his credit, including World Champion of Five Year Old Dressage Horses. Dressage Royal has been selected as a sire to some of the most successful performance mares in Germany and all of Europe. For example, the mare Brilliant Ring Champion mare Silberaster OLD (by Sandro Hit x Canaster) was bred to Dressage Royal several times via Embryo Transfer in 2008. She was defeated in competition at the World Championship for Young Horses by Desperado (Dressage Royal x Rouletto/Barsoi xx) under rider/owner Nadine Plaster of Pferde24 Group. Desperado has been awarded the OLD suffix in the winter of 2008 following his excellent competition results. He was the highest money earning horse for his age group and the first dressage youngster to beat all of the showjumpers. His arrival on the dressage scene was well documented after having been the Price Highlight of the Fall 2007 Vechta Auction in Oldenburg as a four year old gelding. Desperado was the clear highlight of the auction collection with his rhythm, powerful movement and mesmerizing gaits, resulting in the knockdown price of 210,000 Euros. This lovely gelding was purchased by the Pferde_24 Group from Baden-Wurtemburg. In the winter of 2009-2010, Desperado OLD was moved into the prestigious barn of Carola Koppelman in Germany. There is a full write up of his stellar career and a recent photograph HERE. At the conclusion of the 2011 competition season in Germany, Carola Koppelmann competed Desperado OLD in the prestigious Nurnberger Burgpokal Finals with outstanding results. Desperado OLD won the qualifying round with a comfortable margin over Isabell Werth and Flatley, Stephan Framm and Damsey (also by Dressage Royal), Rock Forever and Oliver Olerich, Fürst Khevenhüller and Helen Langehanenberg, Dancing Elvis and Matthias Alexander Rath and Diamond Girl with Nadine Cappellman. In the Finals class, the 8 year old Desperado OLD clearly outclassed his competitors with a score of 75.45%. In the raw scores, Desperado had a 28 point margin over his closest competitor. There are a few photos of the class HERE. In 2012, Desperado OLD made his Grand Prix debut with good results. He also participated in the Lousidor Prize Finals in December with scores over 71% at Intermediare and in the short Grand Prix Test. Damsey was also competing in that same class and had very respectable scores in the mid 60's to his credit. In the 2009 Swiss Young Horse Championships, there were more than a few Dressage Royal offspring competing! Please take a moment and peruse the article that goes into the details of bloodlines and scores. For a privately owned stallion this is a testament to his consistent production of rideable, trainable young horses with international quality movements.

Like his relative Desperado OLD, he has qualified for the World Championship for Young Horses in Verden in August 2009 for the FEI Six Year Old Division. In the 2009 World Championships for Youn Horses Dressage Royal was represented by Desperado OLD and UNO Don Diego. Both six year old horses advanced to the Final Round and placed in the Top Ten. The production of successful horses does not end with Desperado OLD – Dressage Royal has been quite prolific with several licensed sons. Damsey (x Ritual/Grande/Ladykiller xx) was bred by Dorit and Hermann and sold at the conclusion of his high placing at the 30 Day Test to the Celle State Stud in Hanover. Celle, in turn, sold Damsey to Doug and Louise Leatherdale. Damsey has had a good performance career – he has competed at the World Championships for Young Horses as a 5 and 6 Year Old as well as the Bundeschampionate under the tutelage of the staff of Jens Meyer’s stud farm. Damsey has been crowned Champion twice in Herning, Denmark at the Danish Stallion Presentation. The US Olympic mare Brentina (Brentano II/Lungau) has been bred to Damsey via ET for 2010 AND 2011...so in keeping with the long standing breeding tradition, if you like the son, breed to the father - consider Dressage Royal for your mare in 2010! Damsey made the jump from successful small tour horse to Grand Prix in 2012. He is competing and winning in Germany at this time. Damsey February 2012 |

Several other sons have been licensed for breeding in Europe. They have received favorable comments on their type, conformation and outstanding disposition. Doringcourt (x Glueckspilz/Diadem) has already impressed the German judges at the beginning of his sporting career with numerous triumphs to his credit at the tender age of four and has now gone on to be very successful in his new home in New Zealand.

Dressage Royal's Swiss Bred OffspringDressage Royal’s Swiss Bred son Darling KWG (out of a Hill Hawk x Geronimo mare) won the Swiss Breed Classic, Division Basic Gaits in 2007. This class is regarded as the highlight of all the divisions that the youngsters compete in at The Classic. This 3 year old stallion by Dressage Royal was bred by Heidi and Walter Kunz and received an overall score of 8.6 Son Quoi-Que his also been licensed and followed in the hoofprints of these other promising stallion sons. They’re all beginning excellent sporting careers with their various owners and breeding simultaneously, a feat not equaled by many young stallions. At the 2010 Swiss Young Horse Championships Dressage Royal's offspring blew the socks off of their competition! Licensed stallion son Dandy de la Roche (out of a Walt Disney mare) convincingly won the FEI 5 Year Old Championships with a score of 8.57! Congratulations! Don Camillo (out of a Hill Hawk xx mare) also trounc...ed his competition in the FEI 6 Year Old Championships! He scored 71.35! These licensed stallions and champions are not the only offspring of Dressage Royal carrying on the legacy of performance. At the 107th Elite Auction at Verden, the Dressage Royal filly, Desiree (Dressage Royal x Akzent II), sold for the top price of 10,000 Euros, and was exported to Italy. Dolce (Dressage Royal x Espri) is under the tutelage of Debbie MacDonald and competing very successfully in the United States. Sons Don Dressage (x Dream of Glory/Continue) and Damsey Royal (x Ritual/Grande) have safely made the journey to the United States and we will keep you updated on their lives. Perhaps in a few years they will be licensed for breeding. Don William WF was the first Dressage Royal foal born here at Watermark Farm in 2007. He instantly captivated us with his charm and personality. As he is growing and developing, we are eagerly anticipating a bright future with him as a riding horse. Liam is quite tall but truly a gentle giant who would like nothing more than to please his handler and be the light of his rider's day. He is the sweetest horse we've ever had the pleasure of owning. He spend the winter of 2010 in training at Phillip Dutton's Red Oak Farm in Aiken, SC for mileage and conditioning. As a rising 6 year old, he is schooling his single changes and lateral work with great potential for the highest levels in sport. Dressage Royal’s US bred foals are drawing quite a bit of attention as well with their fantastic gaits, excellent conformation and good temperaments. In 2007, daughter Daylily WF out of Achtung Again WF (by Again and Again x Sir George Gaylord xx) earned a Premier Award and the Site Champion title with an overall score of 8.1 with favorable comments on being an improvement over her dam and praise for her movement, gaits and overall appearance. Daylily WF was also named Top Foal in North America at the conclusion of the Inspection Tour! In the autumn of 2012, Daylily is now schooling her single flying changes, lateral work and progressing nicely. We expect her to make her FEI debut in 2016.

2008 brought new faces by Dressage Royal to Watermark Farm in the form of Dreamcatcher WF and Dream Girl WF. The naming theme of “dream” has stuck with these young horses as that is what they are – dreams come true to us as breeders. Dream Girl WF, or Daisy as she is known around the barn,
is not only stamped clearly by Dressage Royal but also by her damline – she
is very reminiscent of her grand dam, Able Spirit WF, who campaigned successfully
at the FEI level for over 10 years. We have very high hopes for this filly
and were extremely proud of her at her foal inspection. Daisy is beginning her undersaddle training and is available for purchase at this time. Dreamcatcher WF has several nicknames in the stable; Derek or McDreamy are the most used, but all joking aside, this is a superstar of a colt. He has the consistent improvements coming from Dressage Royal combined with the special attributes of his dam Abracadabra WF by Again and Again. At his foal inspection, the judges were entranced by Dreamcatcher WF’s movement and had high praise for the young colt: “even when trotting down the hill, this colt was STILL moving UP HILL!” His overall score of 8.2 with an 8.5 for movement left no doubt who was the Champion that day. We will continue to watch him closely as he has the potential to be a lovely stallion if all goes well. A short video clip from October 2010 can be viewed HERE. |

In the spring of 2009, we were delighted to have a full brother to Dreamcatcher WF join us. Drummond WF is undeniably stamped by his sire from his superb trotting mechanics down to his bay coat with tasteful white markings. Drummond earned 8.5s for all of his inspection criteria and earned a Premier Award at his foal inspection. Abracadabra WF & Drummond WF Photo courtesy of A & A Photography
June 2014 We were also thrilled to have a full sister to Dream Girl WF arrive. She has been named Dolce Elise WF and earned a compliment that makes any breeder smile: according to Dorit, “She looks just like Dressage Royal. Identical!” If that praise was not enough, Dolce went on to have a very good foal inspection, earning a dream score of 9.1 and Premier Award along with the title of Site Champion with a 9 for Type, 9 for Frame, 8.7 for Conformation and a 9.1 for movement. Dolce Elise WF was named Top Foal in North America at the conclusion of the 2009 Inspection Tour! Spring 2012 Video of Dolce is available HERE. ![]() Dolce Elise WF |
