Abundance

The Stallion

Abundance was an impressive stallion who was imported to the United States in the fall of 1965 by A. A. Steiert. He stood here at Watermark Farm in the late 1970s and early 80s. His sire, Absatz, is credited with bringing the Hanoverian horse into the modern age of sport competition, as he lightened the heavy, old style mares and increased their hind leg activity.

Abundance left a legacy that has yet to be equaled by any stallion in the United States. His offspring won at International Three Day competitions, competed successfully in the highest levels of Dressage and Show Jumping, and the hunter sensation Ruxton needs no introduction.

Abundance drove as a single or pair, fox hunted as a staff horse for decades, evented through Preliminary, competed at FEI dressage and show jumped successfully. After having been awarded Hanoverian Stallion of the Year numerous times, in the mid 1990s his breeding license was revoked for lack of a 100 Day Test. Therefore, his offspring were no longer to be considered Hanoverian horses.

Regardless of any official approvals, Abundance was a treasured asset to US Sporthorse Breeder and will be remembered through his outstanding offspring for generations to come.

We have carefully observed the strengths and weaknesses of our Abundance sons and daughters over the years and carefully selected the appropriate mates for their offspring. Great joy is found each day in his descendants and Abundance is given credit where it is due – he improved flat muscled, rangey mares beautifully as sport horses.

As a credit to his longevity and that of his offspring - Abundance is still ranked on the USEF Top Eventing Sires List in 2009! Congratulations to daughter Always A Lady and her rider/owner Sara for continuing to compete at a high level!

Abundance–s motherline is quite well known in Germany with the following licensed stallions to its credit: Dolling, Grand Garcon, Athener, Durer, Fuerst Flair, Manhattan, Lopez, Pik Solo, Wilde-Boy, Pik Immer, Solist, Senegal, Duel, Weserstar S, Efendi, Eichendorff, Don, Friedel, Alligator, Donani, Dompteur, the full brothers Wachmann I, II and III, Grannius, Urquell, Urofino, Denar, Seelowe, Egbert, Eros, Morat, Sober, Graf Yoster, Sirius, Atmon C.M., Salut, Sheerkaun, Tanzenlicht, Dorian and Derfflinger.
